Chapter Seventeen

Relik waited till he had seen my mum, Donna and Dad leave grans place. Then he knocked on the front door. Gran invited him to come in and made him some breakfast. They talked for a while and Relik informed her of all the latest and with the plans they had. Gran said hopefully the snails would be willing to help him. So, when they were done eating they went out into the garden. Looking for snails sometimes could take a while, especially if they did not want to be found. But luckily Relik quickly spotted one hiding under a bush and it wasn’t just a common snail. “Your plan, Relik, is a very foolish and dangerous one. Have you considered what may happen to you?” it said before Relik could even speak.

“Yes, but I see no other way unless you can tell me of one,” he replied.

“I will need to consult a little more with the others, come back later tonight,” the snail told him. With that the snail suddenly retreated quickly back inside its shell. Relik rose to his feet. Gran was sitting waiting for him, on the little metal bench next to the pond feeding the fish.

“Well, did it help you, Relik?”

“It wants to consult more with the others, it told me to come back later.”

“Oh…ok. Well that’s not a bad thing, it could mean they are seriously considering it. Have you told Gemma, anything yet about Aluna, and your plan?”

“No, not yet as I don’t want her to be worried about me, not when she needs her strength to heal from her injuries.”

Gran nodded but said. “You can’t keep it long from her, she does deserve to know. Especially as Aluna, is still such a grave danger to her.”

Relik sighed and looked sad down at the ground. “I know, but I will make sure she is safe whatever the cost maybe! Though I will tell her soon about everything. I don’t want to hide things from her. ”

Gran hugged him, well at least his waist as he towered above her.

He then returned to me in the hospital, just minutes after my parents and Donna had left again. I’d missed him so much and knew that our time together was so precious. Some more kissing was in order, even though that got us a few disapproving looks. I really hated being stuck in here, but with these injuries I knew I had no choice.

A nurse came over to me. “Gemma, I was asked to see if you needed to see someone to maybe talk to after your loss and the trauma. I’m guessing from looks of things this must be your partner, he can have counselling if he needs some too?” she said.

I wondered for a minute what she meant, then I suddenly realized. “Oh, no I will be okay, thank you and he was not my baby’s father.”

I suddenly cringed. God what a slut she must think I am I thought to myself. Especially as she looked embarrassed and apologized before going quickly to attend to another patient.
